The Centre Cannot Hold is a seemingly random body of photographs that come together as a reflection on entropy. Entropy is the second law of thermodynamics and is most simply defined as the measurement of disorder. It is utilised in art and science as a means of organising and understanding apparent vagueness and disorder. In the present moment, we are confronted with chaos and complexity as the dynamic process of entropy creates continual movement from order to disorder. My photographs are an intuitive and emotional response to how I, as an artist, express the contemporary disorder and complexity of current affairs. The photographs came from a place of investigation, capturing the landscape and the fragile human condition, and exploring the physical manipulation of negatives. The series seeks to capture and distil chaos, in an attempt to communicate and understand my surroundings, amalgamating to resist entropy, to find fault with entropy and to make coherence not incoherence.
